MJOP Schiphol
Project info:
Heijmans is one of the Main Contractors on Schiphol Airport, they maintain a big part of the airport. This time, DIBS42 played a vital role as a key supporter to the BIM Manager. Our responsibilities encompassed advising and implementing the most efficient work methods in alignment with Schiphol's rigorous BIM standards. We ensured the validity and compliance to contracts, guaranteeing that every team member, from the construction site to engineering and project planning, operated in accordance with the BIM contracts of Schiphol. Our ultimate goal was to optimize the BIM workflow, driving improvement in realization.
Client brief info:
Heijmans Schiphol is a subsidiary of Heijmans, a leading Dutch construction and engineering firm. Despite sharing the same parent company, it operates independently. Heijmans Schiphol manages and maintains critical infrastructure at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, including runways and taxiways, to ensure smooth and safe airport operations.
In 2019, Schiphol partnered with Heijmans and other firms to maintain its infrastructure over a nine-year period, divided into three three-year terms. This partnership was extended in April 2021 for an additional three years, securing Heijmans' role until at least 2025.
The Challenge:
Successfully tailoring advice and implementation to cater to the unique requirements of each team was truthfully challenging. At the same time, it was equally important to ensure that all team members are enthusiastic and prepared to shift their working approach and embrace the new methodology. Additionally, we needed to be confident that the complicated contract was doable.
The Approach:
We conducted targeted workshops to transition from the current state to the desired future state, identifying and addressing existing gaps. These sessions developed and implemented scripts and methodologies aligned with our objectives. Throughout the process, we maintained continuous consultation with the team to ensure all solutions were practical, effective, and tailored to our specific needs.
The Outcome:
The end result was the successful adoption of a renewed and improved working method imbedded in the main process, that aligns with the BIM regulations for future projects. This transformation has led to a significant increase in awareness and focus on BIM across all teams, resulting in projects being undertaken with greater efficiency and a steady commitment to improved quality.
