Project info

We were in charge of developing and implementing a standardized BIM clash coordination procedure for Engie/Equans Netherlands. Our tasks included designing the process, establishing rule sets, collaborating closely with Engie's specialists to implement it, and creating a tutorial and instruction guide. Additionally, we created documents for clash exceptions, standardized opening requests, and open-free zone specifications as part of the project. As professional consultants, our main goal was to improve Engie's workflow by creating, implementing, and executing a tailor-made strategy.

Client brief info

Equans, the leading global provider of technical services, has a team of 6,000 dedicated professionals stationed across 29 locations in the Netherlands. With their cutting-edge technical, digital, and sustainable solutions, they are committed to assisting their clients in the utilities, industry, and government sectors.

The Challenge

We aimed to bring together different ways of working in Equans, ensuring that all stakeholders were excited about the new approach.

The Approach

We collaborated with Equans' specialists from different locations and specializations to assess their current approaches through brainstorming sessions. Collectively, we investigated creative methods of working, experimented with new concepts, generated reports, delivered presentations on our discoveries, implemented our ideas on two projects, and reflected on our reports and documents based on the outcome of these projects until they were complete. Throughout this collaborative journey, we fostered an environment of open communication and shared expertise.

The Outcome

The main outcome was implementing the new standard BIM work process across Equans. This process emphasizes the clear roles within the design team, ensuring everyone understands their duties at each project stage, especially in clash coordination. We didn't only focus on the clashes themselves, but also on how to prevent them (With for example an open free zones specification), on expert clashes (so something that is technically not allowed but physically not clashing, and how to work efficiently with clashes (for example a standardized openings request process). By precisely defining roles and responsibilities, we have fostered accountability and established a direct and efficient approach to clash coordination.
