Interview with Vesna Mandić: What does it mean to be a Project Leader at DIBS42?
Introduction
At DIBS42, project leadership plays a central role in delivering consistent, high-quality BIM workflows across projects. To shed light on what this responsibility looks like in practice, we sat down with Vesna Mandić, one of our Project Leaders whose experience reflects the structure and commitment that defines our team.
Being in DIBS42 since 2021, Vesna went through various projects, challenges and journeys with our team members. In this role, she reflected on some of the key elements of the position.
The Interview
Q: Can you describe what being a Project Leader at DIBS42 entails on a day-to-day basis?
Vesna: Above all, as a project leader, I remain consistently available on a daily basis to support, guide, and act when required. By maintaining a strong focus on time management, technical execution, BIM coordination, and contract compliance, I collaborate closely with the team to align efforts and successfully achieve our shared project goals.
Q: What types of projects do you typically lead, and what are their main challenges?
Vesna: I’m very pleased to say that I’ve had the opportunity to lead many different types of MEP projects, spanning various phases and design approaches. Fortunately, with the right team, we were able to overcome all these challenges with ease.
Q: How do you balance technical coordination with client and team communication?
Vesna: At DIBS42, we follow a very structured approach to work communication, and I would recommend that every company adopt something similar. Information should be properly shared, stored, and used, and creating a clear ruleset for this makes all the difference. This is how we operate, and it ensures that the entire team stays on the same page, with no room for miscommunication.
Q: What tools or standards are essential for ensuring consistency across projects?
Vesna: Well… I suppose I can give the same answer as to the previous question: we have rules. Our ways of working are shared across the entire company from the very first day. These rules represent the best practices we’ve developed over many years of experience. Everyone knows them, and everyone follows them, which keeps our work consistent. This consistency is further supported by our predefined project templates, families, rule-sets, parameters, and our DIBS42 HIVE Revit plugin.
Q: How does DIBS42 adapt to new standards or technologies in BIM?
Vesna: Despite being active online and involved in global BIM communities, when you work with a team that is constantly seeking new knowledge in technology and BIM, very little can stay hidden from you. And that’s exactly what I find most exciting about this job: the constant change. We take particular care in managing it, especially given the rapid pace of technological advancements. We know the answer is to adapt to it, not to run away from it.
Q: What do you enjoy most about leading projects at DIBS42?
Vesna: It’s truly a versatile role. Even though it may seem like my responsibilities revolve only around technical issues, deadlines, and workload, there’s much more to it. This job keeps me grounded and constantly reminds me that I’m setting an example for others. The company gives me the freedom to explore this role and find my place in it, without imposing strict rules that often end up being counterproductive. I’d also like to highlight how grateful and proud I am to be involved in large international projects, that is really fulfilling.
Q: How would you describe the company culture from a project leader’s point of view?
Vesna: Every member of our team is an individual with a strong sense of curiosity. Maybe it’s a coincidence, or perhaps we simply inspire and motivate each other. From my perspective, in this line of work, curiosity is the most important quality. When you’re curious, you’re willing, and when you’re willing, you’re able. I’m truly happy to lead a team like this.
Conclusion
Vesna’s perspective shows just how thoughtful coordination, structure, and curiosity drives successful BIM project delivery. With leaders like her, we continue to build a work environment where every challenge becomes an opportunity to grow, innovate, and deliver better projects for our growing list of clients.
